Traffic warning ahead of Kevin Mooney's funeral
A convoy of fire engines will participate in today's funeral procession for firefighter Kevin (Moondog) Mooney.
Mr. Mooney, 29, of Southampton, died last Tuesday after suffering head injuries in a bike crash in Warwick.
The funeral procession will see his mourning fire service colleagues drive their engines along the route to his funeral at 2 p.m at St. Theresa's Catholic Cathedral, Pembroke.
A Police advisory yesterday warned of the following parking and traffic restrictions in place to facilitate the procession:
Inward: Bulley-Graham Funeral Home, Mount Hill Pembroke, Langton Hill, right on St. John's Road, left onto Woodlands Road, left onto Canal Road, right onto Laffan Street.
Outward: South on Cedar Avenue, (including the one way section) left onto Church Street, right onto King Street, Cavendish Road, Middle Road, right onto Montpelier Road, right onto Frog Lane, right onto Palmetto Road, right onto Roberts Avenue.
Traffic will be restricted along the procession route through the city of Hamilton. At the junction of Elliott Street and Cedar Avenue, vehicles will will be allowed to travel west on Elliott Street so parents can collect young children from Mount Saint Agnes School. Traffic will not be allowed east of the Laffan Street / Washington Street junction. Traffic will be held at the following junctions until the funeral procession has gone through: Dundonald Street/Cedar Avenue, Victoria Street / Cedar Avenue, Church Street / Cedar Avenue, Burnaby Street / Church Street, Parliament Street / Church Street, Court Street / Church Street, King Street / Church Street.
Parking will be banned at the following locations between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m: The northern side of Elliott Street from Cedar Avenue to Washington Street, the southern side of Elliott Street in the kerbside parallel car parking bays and Laffan Street.
