Designers plan a show of contrasts

Natural Spirit is presenting its annual fashion show - Clothes Minded - showing its spring and summer collection.

Local designer Ricky (Amethyst) Richardson said the fashion show promises to be a "spring of opulence and glamour".

He is promising lightweight linens, bamboo bits, long lines and something to transform the more voluptuous figures.

Having had a sneak preview, there will be something for smart casual occasions as well as for the moments when one is required to don more elegant attire.

The show, which will be held this evening, is going to be set against the sunset on the roof of the Bermuda Industrial Union building.

Amethyst said: "The show will encompass the past and the present, marry the soft and the hard, creating a balance - the ying and the yang."

Spirit Wear is launching the Bamboo Line, a sort of body armour. The bamboo is offered in clothing as well as accessories.

The colours this year are mostly browns, blues, sands and hibiscus.

But Amethyst said: "As always - black rules."

He said that the challenge is always to provide glamour and comfort, plus allowing for items to be dressed up or down as needed.

Amethyst has been working on the Spirit Wear line since last August.

He also has a men's line, which has very simple lines for the more relaxed male.

He said: "The men's line is clean and fresh and is accenting a new copper for men - the colours are strong."

Spirit Wear is also offering a new shoe line with eastern flavours.

The fuller figured woman will get a treat from Spirit Wear, with clothing that is designed to flatter, yet conceal, silhouette and to create an illusion of slimness through length.

Amethyst said: "It's not what you wear, but to be aware of what you wear."

"There will also be floral motifs, appliqu? and cowries shell accents. It will be an edgy, sexy sportswear collection and promises to high light some of the female erogenous zones."

Deborah Rhoda has put together a line for the fuller figured woman.
