$25 million Italian Palazzo on Harrington Sound is on the market.

Owned by Canadian multi-millionaire Rockwell Schirallli and his wife Sammy, visitors could be forgiven for thinking they were staying at one of the famous Lake Como homes once they crossed a bridge leading to the Smith's home.

'Deepwater' is a sprawling four bedroom, four bath waterfront estate with a four bedroom, four bath guest cottage overlooking Harrington Sound.

Dotted around the 2.7 acre grounds are numerous bronze statues, including a 20-foot King Neptune statue from Florence, tennis and bocce courts, a stunning horizon pool with 40-foot deck and private dock.Mr. Schirallli invited to take a peek through the keyhole of his Italian inspired labour of love.He purchased "Deepwater" from Dutch multi-millionaire John Deuss in 1998 but completely overhauled the house."It is a very different house from the one Mr. Deuss owned, there is only one room that is the same and that is the wine cellar," Mr. Schirallli said. "It's funny because I started by saying I didn't want to spend much but then the project grew and grew. Iwas here everyday supervising it, there were a million decisions that had to be made. Especially because it was design built, rather than from drawings."It is the only Bermuda property designed by internationally respected J.F. Brennan. It is based on a style created by famous Italian architect Andrea Palladio, who created villas for the Venetian aristocracy in the 16th Century."There's nothing built in this house that I didn't want and there is nothing that Iwanted in this house that isn't here," Mr. Schirallli said. "The one thing my wife said when we were buying property here was 'it has to have sunsets'. "What a lot of people don't realise is that the houses in Tucker's Town don't get the sunset. They get the sunrise but who is up in the morning for that?"Here on Harrington Sound we get amazing sunsets."Upon entering the reception foyer, you are struck by the height of the ceilings and doors. Mr. Schirallli said raising the ceilings of the whole house was one of the first decisions made. The reception hall has an ornate cypress ceiling. From there guests can take an intricate staircase up to the master bedroom, head to the library or enter the 'Great Room' with Jerusalem stone flooring, custom detailed Texas limestone fireplace, and multiple doors opening to the pool deck overlooking the Sound.Beyond is a generous guest bedroom suite opening to pool deck and overlooking the sound. The other guest room is a Moroccan themed room with magnificent hand carved ceilings from India. A third lovely guest space offers French doors leading to a balcony overlooking the rotunda and entry gates. The elegant dining room has hand painted vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling palladium doors with spectacular views of Harrington Sound. Past the dinning room is another sitting area and a bridged walkway from the main house, which leads to an elegant office, below which lies a secluded lower office suite with its own private powder room and minikitchen.[AT]bodynoindent:eanwhile the kitchen is decked out with state of the art equipment. And nature lovers will feel right at home in the tranquil mini-rainforest/aquarium, which has a gentle waterfall. Mr. Schirallli has hundreds of birds and prize winning exotic fish there, as well as bronze statues. It was designed by the same man who created the Amazon exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution. But one of the true gems of the estate is the panoramic view of Harrington Sound from the 40-foot foot pool deck, or perhaps while swimming in the horizon pool. [AT]bodyindent:Mr. Schirallli said the home is up for sale because his family is now grown, with the youngest son at university in Rome."It is amazing family home, we have had many wonderful memories here," he said. "There are times where there can be 15 scooters out the front when my son has friends down. They will all be down stairs in what I call the 'gymnasium' playing video games and hanging out or having fun in the pool or on the dock."Ihelped design everything in this home and on the grounds, it is very well thought out and has everything a person could want."The estate agent is Rego Sotheby's International Realty, the listing agent is Margaret Young.
