Save the Rhinos event doubles its cash target
A fundraiser for two African rhino charities raised more than double the amount that organisers had targeted.
One of the organisers Alet Coetzee had expected the charity walk would raise $5,000 for Saving the Survivors and the Rhino Orphanage but after 165 headed to the National Stadium last night to participate, close to $11,500 was raised.
The charities help to rehabilitate orphaned rhinos and work against illegal poaching. Ms Coetzee enlisted a group of friends to help organise the Save the Rhinos 5k walk/run at the National Stadium’s North Track and now hopes to organise another event next year.
She told ‘The Royal Gazette’: “It went really well. We are super-excited and now that we know that it works we can go bigger and better next year. I want to thank the public for the support. Hopefully we made a small difference in this ongoing battle against poaching.”
The walk/run was followed by a prize-giving, food and DJs.
