Limerick keep survival hopes alive

Staying up? Hall and his Limerick team-mates grabbed a vital 3-1 win over Galway

Freddy Hall and his Limerick team-mates kept their Airtricity League Premier Division survival hopes alive with a 3-1 win away at Galway yesterday.

Two goals from Vinny Faherty, and an Ian Turner strike took the bottom club to within a point of Sligo Rovers, who play away at Longford Town this afternoon.

Limerick went ahead past the quarter-hour with a superbly-taken goal from Faherty, who took full advantage from a mistake in the home defence to fire a beautiful shot beyond Conor Winn.

Galway drew level, just past the hour-mark, when Ryan Connolly’s corner was forced home by the head of Samuel Oji. That parity, though, lasted just six minutes as Turner raided into the box and struck a rocket past Winn.

And the game was put to bed nine minutes from time when Turner crossed for Faherty to deliver the killer blow.
