The surf is a result of Hurricane Alberto, which was located 309 nautical miles east of Bermuda yesterday morning.

High surf warning signs have been posted on the beaches and will remain up throughout the weekend.

A Parks spokesman said life-guards were on duty at John Smiths Bay, Horseshoe Bay and Clearwater Beach but swimmers should still use extra caution.

The hurricane has now passed its closest point to Bermuda and is no longer considered a threat to the Island.
