Lifeguards off to Florida
the USLA Regional Championships in Flaggler Beach, Florida.
The seven-member team will compete in surf swim, beach running, rescues and board paddling events.
Lifeguard Mr. Beau Franklin said the team expected good results, particularly with the inclusion of Bermuda swimming squad members Stanley Harris and Claudia Seymore.
Four members of the team attended the Regional Championships last year led my Mr. Huw Morris, who died suddenly earlier this year.
The team will visit both Flaggler and Daytona Lifeguard facilities so they can evaluate equipment and techniques used in the US.
"This is an important part of the trip as it keeps the Bermuda Lifeguard Service in touch with the rest of the world's Life Saving movement,'' Mr.
Franklin said.
"It was apparent from last year's results and observations of the US training and equipment that the Bermuda Lifeguard Service is of a world class standard.
"The training provided by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Parks is equal to that provided in the UK or Australia the recognised leaders in lifesaving.'' The team is supported by the Bank of Bermuda, BF&M, the Royal Life Saving Society, The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Recreation and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Parks.
