Conditional discharge for drug possession

A 20-year-old Warwick man has been given a six-month conditional discharge for possessing cannabis.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Jamie Cann Jr admitted having 1.95g of the controlled drug in his possession in Devonshire on March 27.

The court heard that Cann was stopped by Police on North Shore Road and was taken into custody because he had a warrant outstanding for his arrest.

At Hamilton Police Station, officers found three small plastic bags containing plant material in his wallet.

The court heard that Cann was on probation at the time of the offence, but the probation order was revoked three days later and Cann spent 30 days in prison.

When asked by magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo if he was ready to go back to prison, Cann replied: “No, not at all.”

Mr Tokunbo gave Cann a six-month conditional discharge because of his early guilty plea and the small amount of drugs found.
