Bacardi buys out Brazilian firm

Rum giant Bacardi has added another spirit to its stable of drinks.

The Bermuda-based global company has taken full control of Leblon, a Brazilian producer of the country’s national drink, a sugar cane-based spirit called cachaca.

Bacardi — which has owned a stake in the firm for several years — did not disclose the terms of the deal.

The move means that Bacardi now controls Leblon, which is sold in more than 35 countries around the world, including the US, Canada and Caribbean countries.

The announcement came on the heels of Bacardi’s purchase of Swiss-based premium rum maker Banks earlier this week.
