Warwick man banned from roads for 18 months

A Warwick man has been banned from the roads for drink-driving.

Deuntay Darrell, 39, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to being over the blood-alcohol limit.

The court heard that Police responded to a collision on Richmond Road in Pembroke on Saturday. Officers approached the drivers of two vehicles in the Mariner’s Club car park in relation to the accident and noticed that Darrell appeared intoxicated.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and taken to Hamilton Police Station. The lowest reading from a breath sample found he had 196 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — more than twice the legal limit of 80mg.

When asked by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo if he had anything to say, Darrell replied: “No comment.” Mr Tokunbo disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 18 months and fined him $1,200.
