Media must report both sides of a story

Dear Sir,

The other day I read a Letter to the Editor referring to the Opposition utilising the media to, in effect, market themselves with many untruths, guess work, fictitious remarks, fabrication, and twist what the government of the day is making an effort to accomplish and achieve.

That writer nailed it on the head. It is very easy to sway people with these untruths. Many of us believe that our public media follows a code of ethics and responsibility. We like/need to believe that the media checks and follows up on the facts from all angles before broadcasting. If the news, whether TV or radio, or even talk show hosts, fabricate for the benefit of political gain, they should be penalised, disciplined and/or fined, with an on-air apology given.

When the facts are indeed corrected, the retraction should be on the front page as opposed to hidden inside in small print.

It is well known that we have a reporter and radio broadcaster who have a passion for discrediting the Government of the day, and they should be held accountable for their inaccuracies.

Many Bermudians get their knowledge of what is happening on this Island from the media and they need to make sure that what is printed and said is accurate.

You owe the people and we need BOTH sides loud and clear.

Tired of one side only
