Post Offices around the Island will be closing early on April 24 for a staff general meeting.

Postmaster General George Outerbridge said it is the first time in the Post Office's history that it was having a general meeting, where he hopes all staff will be present.

The aim of the meeting is to have a comprehensive review of operations that are currently underway.

Mr. Outerbridge said: "We will be looking at staff development, business efficiencies and future business opportunities within the Post Office.

"My aim is to turn the Post Office into a profit-making entity, so we will be discussing ways which will help to make this possible. I believe that we also need to invest in developing our staff, both in customer service and with continued learning opportunities."

The Postmaster General, who took office in November, was sent on a course with the Royal Mail in Rugby, England and now wants to work with staff on ways to develop and improve the Post Office.

A formal statement on the future direction of the Post Office will be announced following the consultation.
