Six Police officers have taken on new roles in the latest round of promotions within the Service.

Insp. Junior Watts has served in Central Uniform, the Fingerprint Department, Scenes of Crime Office, Eastern Uniform, the Task Force and on part of the Scenes of Crime Forensic Support Unit.

He has received two letters of good work, the first in 1988 for intelligence and assistance with an investigation resulting in the arrest and conviction of a suspect for the sexual assault of two elderly victims, and the second in 1998 for being a member of the Task Force.

Insp. Watts also served as chairman of the Bermuda Police Association (BPA) from 1992 to 1994.

Det. Insp. Nick Pedro will be in charge of the Western Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

He had served in Western Uniform, Narcotics, Headquarters, and for the last three and a half years has been Detective Sergeant in Eastern and Central CID.

Insp. Pedro has been the recipient of two Commissioner's Commendations, as well as the Queen's Jubilee Medal, and is also a member of the Police Underwater Search and Recovery Dive Team and was the former secretary of the Bermuda Police Association.

Sgt. Pythagoras Santiago (not pictured) has been with the Bermuda Police Service for more than 11 years.

In that time he has served in Western, Central and Eastern divisions, the National Intelligence department, Special Branch, as an officer safety instructor, part of the Police Task Force, and as a Caribbean Regional coordinator for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.

He is presently posted at the St. George's Police Station.

Sgt. Alan Oliver joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1988, having previously served as a Police Cadet and Constable in the South of Wales in the United Kingdom.

When he came to the Island, he was initially posted to Somerset Police Station, but during his career he has worked in Traffic, Central Uniform, Narcotics, Administration, Dispatch and Media Relations.

He was also a part of the Emergency Response Team at the Bermuda International Airport, and over the past year has worked in the Police Training Centre as a law and procedure lecturer. He will take up the post of Staff Officer to the superintendent in charge of the Operational Police Division based in Hamilton.

He was also captain of the Bermuda Police and the Bermuda National Rugby teams.

Sgt. Minton Gilbert will be taking over as officer in charge of the Cadet School.

He was first posted to Training School in 1987, before moving on to Western Division in 1988.

Since then he has worked in Traffic, Central Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Major Incident Room, as part of the Cycle Crime Unit, and as part of the Driver Training Unit. During his career he received a Commissioner's Commendation and a Letter of Good Work for his investigative work.

Sgt. Grant Tomkins has served 12-and-a-half-years with the Service. Before coming to the Island he worked for the West Mercia Constabulary in the United Kingdom.

During his career he has been at Hamilton Police Station, a Parish Constable for Pembroke West and in the central parishes, in the Schools Programme and in Outward Bound.

He had also worked in the Commercial Crime Department as part of the Financial Investigation Unit.

He spent four years as the Youth Development officer for the Bermuda Rugby Football Union, and represented the Bermuda Police Service in cricket and rugby.
