Governor Sir John Vereker has a new Aide de Camp.

Lt. Derek (Bobby) Hurdle, one of Bermuda's top rugby players, began work at Government House on Monday, taking over from Captain Marc Telemaque who was recently appointed Permanent Secretary of Transport.

According to a press statement from Government Information Services, Lt. Hurdle is a former Warwick Academy student who joined the Regiment in 1998 and holds a bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Lt. Hurdle has captained Bermuda's national rugby team and Teachers Rugby Football Club and has represented the West Indies in rugby sevens.

Government also announced other changes in the Regiment yesterday. Lt. Lorin Smith is the new Adjutant of the Regiment taking over from Captain William White.

Lt. Smith will be responsible for the "day to day administration and discipline for the battalion" and will serve as the Commanding Officer's personal assistant.

And six soldiers left the Island last week for training at the Platoon Infantry Training Center in Brecon, Wales.
