Warbaby Fox provides ferry cover
Warbaby Fox, the usual St. George's ferry, will be used to provide service for the Rockaway route as the usual vessels on this route are experiencing mechanical difficulties.
A ferry advisory was sent out yesterday explaining two of the Rockaway catamaran ferries have been pulled out of service for maintenance.
Passengers on the route have experienced delays of ferry departure and arrival times this week.
Shelley Richardson, a regular on the Rockaway ferry route, spoke to The Royal Gazette about some of the difficulties.
She explained she was on the Serenity Wednesday morning on the 8.30 a.m. ferry, which was the same boat involved in the Dockyard crash.
"As we were getting into the harbour, something made a noise. Two deckhands took off to check it out and the boat went into a go slow. As we got closer to the dock, a tugboat had to nudge us in".
Mrs. Richardson said the boat went really slow and there was quite a lot of chatter on the ferry but no one panicked.
"The next morning, the 8.30 ferry didn't come at all. We all had to wait there for the five to nine ferry," she said.
She also said the evening ferry, she couldn't recall the name, had no air conditioning working.
Even though there have been recent difficulties, Mrs. Richardson said she remains optimistic about the service.
"I have great faith in the fast ferries," she said. "I've been using them since they started. They are the best thing since sliced bread. One of the best things Ewart Brown ever did".
She speculated that the ferries need maintenance because the engines take "a beating" everyday.
"I'm not negative about it because things happen", she said.
