Staffing issues at the post office is creating a backlog of undelivered mail, it has been claimed.

But Postmaster General Clevelyn Crichlow denied there was a backlog and urged people with problems to contact him.

One local resident called The Royal Gazette yesterday to complain that she yesterday received an invitation from the Bermuda College to attend an event - a day after the event had taken place and 22 days after the invitation was mailed.

The woman, who did not want to be named for this story, said that her enquiries revealed that the mail had been sitting in the post office for weeks before it was delivered to her Flatts Post Office mail box.

She said she was also told by staff that sick leave and no overtime payments had taken their toll on service.

"That's not good enough. People need to have their mail - it's as simple as that," she said.

"I want someone to be accountable for delivering my mail on time."

She said with lots of family members in the United States, she checks her post office mail box everyday.

And she was curious as to whether the problem was restricted to Flatts or whether it affected the entire postal system.

"There's no backlog of mail. Tell her to call me and give me all the details," said Mr. Crichlow.
