New sighting of mystery bird

The mystery of a large white bird has deepened after it was spotted on the opposite side of Bermuda from the neighbourhood where it was thought to live.

A new sighting of the tropical-looking bird was made on Tuesday at Somerset Island by Dr. Clarence Terceira.

He was driving along Sound View Road shortly before 11 a.m. when he encountered the unusual avian. ?This big white bird flew over my car. I though at first it was an egret, but it was a different shape and then it landed in the branch of a tree,? said Dr. Terceira, who lives in Sandys.

?It was big and completely white and shaped like a cockatiel but twice as big. This is the first time I?ve seen this bird. It was amazing, all-white.?

An unusual large all-white bird with a plume on its head was reported by Laura Lee after she spotted it outside her home in Bailey?s Bay, Hamilton Parish, during the weekend.

Andrew Dobson, president of the Bermuda Audubon Society said it was possible the bird at Bailey?s Bay was a sulphur-crested cockatiel known to fly freely in the nearby area of Blue Hole Hill.
