A 41-year-old man paid a heavy price for giving someone a lift yesterday.

The stranger punched him, stole his money and then drove off in the car, leaving him stranded.

The assault occurred as the car was travelling east near The Garden Market on Middle Road, Devonshire.

The suspect is a light skinned well built man, possibly of Portuguese descent. He had dark curly hair and was wearing a blue sweatshirt and cut off pants.

The car was later recovered on Dundonald Street, Pembroke and taken to the Police compound.

Eight nabbed on suspicion of drunk driving

Eight people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving over the weekend.

Police say there were 17 damage-only road accidents, four of which resulted in injury.

There were also nine weekend incidents of breaking and entering ? one in Sandys, four in Warwick, one in Devonshire, two in Pembroke and one in Hamilton parish.

Police chased a cyclist seen leaving Esso Service Station, on Richmond Road in an erratic manner at around 1.35 a.m. on Sunday. The Police Support Unit stopped him on Serpentine Road and arrested him for suspicion of driving while impaired.
