A Sandys Parish man who blamed his drug addiction for breaking into two homes will be sentenced in May.

Cedric Simons, 36, of Spar Lane, Sandys Parish pleaded guilty to attempted breaking and entering and two counts of breaking and entering and theft.

He stole a total of $3,000 from two residences on November 14 and February 9. A gold ring and a gold-faced watch worth a total value of $650 were eventually returned to the owner.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill said Simons had the benefit of a 12-month suspended sentence but still continued to commit these crimes.

She added: "He has admitted that this was done to support his drug habit."

Simons appeared before Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons without representation and told the court that he only started committing crimes three years ago. He said he committed the crimes to support his drug habit.

He had previously been kicked out of Harbour Lights when he was caught doing drugs there. He said he had also been through detoxification at Turning Point but that only worked for a little while.

Mrs. Justice Simmons ordered a pre-sentencing report to include a Bermuda Assessment Referral Centre (BARC) report and remanded him in custody until the May arraignments session.
