Staff at Daniel's Head eco-resort remain in the dark today about the future of their jobs after a meeting with workers was cancelled yesterday.

The 30 or so employees at the environmentally-friendly holiday village in Somerset were expecting to meet with management yesterday, but instead were told the meeting was being deferred so individual talks could be arranged with workers.

The Royal Gazette reported how staff were told on Friday that the tented resort would not open for the summer season as planned later this month.

Instead, they were told that Daniel's Head would open to guests in late April or early May. But it has caused concerns among workers, some of whom are expatriates who have just returned to the Island to begin working again.

A worker, who did not wish to be named, said yesterday: "We still have no idea what is going on. We are waiting to hear what will happen. There has been no meeting."

It is understood that Excel Legacy Corporation, which has invested millions of dollars into the resort, has voiced concerns going into the summer season, some of which relate to the effects of September 11.

Whether or not the major investor, which is a real estate company based in San Diego, will continue with Daniel's Head or look for another organisation to market it, remains to be seen.

The Royal Gazette has been unable to contact general manager of the resort Richard Quinn for comment.
