Man shot with Taser after collision

A 27-year-old Smith's man was shot with a Taser gun after a collision in a Front Street parking lot at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday.

The man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was later released. A 31-year-old Sandys man was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police said the incident took place in the parking lot opposite Dismont Robinson & Co. Ltd. convenience store, near the junction of Front and King streets.

“It appears that an altercation took place between three men after a minor collision between two cars in the parking lot and a Taser was used,” Police said.

Nine arrested in Devonshire, Pembroke

Police arrested nine people in various locations for alleged drug offences and outstanding warrants.

Between 8 p.m. on Friday and 4 a.m. on Saturday, Police on mobile patrol made nine arrests at Cedar Park in Devonshire and Deepdale Road East, Court Street, Elliott Street and St. Monica's Road in Pembroke for alleged offences including outstanding warrants, suspicion of possessing a controlled drug and suspicion of possessing drug equipment.

Knife flashed at Gorham's employees

Employees of Gorham's Limited had a knife flashed at them after chasing two thieves out of the store a few minutes before 5 p.m. on Friday.

Police say employees saw two men removing merchandise from a shelf and after a confrontation the pair ran out of the store.

“As they exited the store, the suspect brandished a knife at one of the employees chasing them before both men made good their escape on a motorcycle, travelling east on St. John's Road,” Police said.

Inquiries into this incident are under way.

Salahuddin trial to begin on Thursday

The trial of a man charged with murdering his six-month-old daughter will begin in Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Karim Shadeed Salahuddin, 26, of Serpentine Road, Pembroke, is charged with murdering Cassidy Salahuddin on May 6, 2003.

The baby was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital that evening with what is described as “apparently severe internal injuries” and died the following morning.

Salahuddin is represented by Queen's Counsel John Perry and lawyer Elizabeth Christopher. The Crown is represented by Wayne Caines and Kulandra Ratneseer, consultant to the DPP.

Police respond to accidents, break-ins

Police reported 29 damage-only road accidents over the weekend and 17 crashes resulting in injury. No one was arrested for impaired driving.

There were five break-ins: two in Paget, one in Pembroke, one in St. George's and one in Smith's.
