Musicians from both Bermuda and Vienna will perform together in the up-coming concert featuring the world most famous opera singer Jos? Carreras.

The 56-piece orchestra will play under the renowned Austrian conductor Walter Lochmann, who has been appointed musical director of the concert on April 4.

Initially, the producers had announced that the Bermuda Philharmonic would provide the complete orchestra, however the late release of the Carreras musical programme made this impossible.

Mr. Carreras’ music will not be released until tomorrow, giving the full orchestra limited time to rehearse.

Karl Hofer, managing director of concert organisers KH International, said: “The Viennese musicians will work in collaboration with local musicians to assemble the most talented team possible to support this landmark performance.”

Bermuda Broadcasting Company managing director, Rick Richardson said: “Dr. Gary Burgess of the Bermuda Philharmonic is now submitting the names of the local musicians for inclusion in the combined orchestra.”

Young Bermudians, Elca Maranzana and Kion Simmons, will still open the concert.

This unique concert, at Dockyard, will mark Jose Carreras’ first-ever performance in Bermuda and will launch a two-year-long celebration leading up to Bermuda’s 500th anniversary in 2005.

The concert will take place at the Bermuda Maritime Museum at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
