The firefighters who sparked an Island-wide strike last week have come to a new pay agreement with their bosses.

BAS-Serco and the Bermuda Industrial Union have sorted out a new collective bargaining agreement, BIU leader Derrick Burgess said yesterday.

BIU members went on strike last week in support of six unionised workers among 18 firefighters at BAS-Serco who had been without a collective agreement for years.

The company has one bargaining unit for union members while the non-union members have another.

Before the strike the company had wanted to wait until the Supreme Court ruled next month over the issue of recognition before getting into pay talks with the union.

However Government urged them to settle after hundreds of workers went on sympathy strike.

Mr. Burgess refused to reveal how much the workers had been awarded.
