The Minister of Works and Engineering has joined MP Kenneth Bascome on a walk around St George’s to look at what parts of the town require immediate action.

Craig Cannonier and Mr Bascome yesterday visited areas that have been plagued by flooding due to lack of drainage as well as parts that had been badly hit by last year’s two hurricanes.

Mr Bascome told The Royal Gazette that he was hopeful that Government would take action to tackle the issues, some of which have been ongoing since last October.

“I believe it went quite well,” said the former Mayor.

“The Minister and I had been in conversation about certain issues and I was pleased to invite him to come down to St George’s and see for himself some of the problems that need to be dealt with.”

Mr Cannonier, Mr Bascome and the permanent secretary for works and engineering, Marva O’Brien, visited the St George’s Golf Course as well as coastal routes and Berry Lane that have been prone to flooding.

Mr Bascome added: “I was able to show the Minister areas that were badly affected by last year’s two hurricanes that still require attention.

“There are also roads around Almeida Farm, including Berry Lane, where water settles and where fencing has been damaged.

“I have asked if it would be possible to get some extra drainage in areas that are prone to these large puddles,

“I am hopeful that the work will be done before the start of the summer season which will benefit both our visitors and locals who walk these areas.”

In a statement released last night Mr Cannonier told The Royal Gazette: “I had the opportunity today [Monday] to walk about the Town with Ms Candylee Foggo, General Secretary, Corporation of St George and MP Kenneth Bascome.

“We had a general discussion regarding post-hurricane clean-up and future projects that may involve the ministry.”
