PHC make winning start

On the ball: action from the women's futsal league

PHC, the two-times defending Women’s Futsal League champions, got the new season off to a winning start at Warwick Academy at the weekend, but not before having to come from behind to beat CP Chicas 9-5 in an entertaining affair.

Chicas forced the champions on the back foot when they took an early lead, but PHC bounced back to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

Chicas produced a valiant effort in the second half but could not close the gap.

Aaliyah Nolan, Taznae Fubler, Jessica Furtado and Kalay Hollis led PHC’s charge with two goals each, while Symira Lowe-Darrell also got in on the scoring act.

Chicas replied through Rayni Maybury and Shunte Todd, who both netted braces, and LeiLanni Nesbeth.

Also getting their season off on the front foot were Dandy Stars, who prevailed against Hamilton Parish 5-1.

Jada Samuels led Stars, who were 3-1 up at the half, with two goals and Zahra Gibbons, Kashintae Fox and Kyla Ramatar had one each. Asrael Basden netted Parish’s consolation goal.

In the remaining scheduled match, Young Men’s Social Club won by default over Somerset Cricket Club.

The next round of matches will feature PHC against Young Men’s Social Club at 5pm, followed by CP Chicas against Hamilton Parish at 6pm and Dandy Stars against Somerset at 7pm.
