Ranger firepower equalled by Exiles
a win as Forties seized the opportunity to close the gap on the leaders on Saturday.
Top team Island Rangers scored four goals against Exiles but still could only manage a draw while second and third-placed Robin Hood and BAA Wanderers either lost or drew their matches.
Island Rangers led Exiles 2-1 at the half on their way to what they thought would be their third straight victory. However, by the time the final whistle had sounded the score was tied at 4-4 with Sheridan Bremar, Theron Smith, Mike Corday and Troy Berkeley scoring for Island Rangers and Kent Bascome, Craig Tyrell, Shawn Simmons and Raymond Durham replying for Exiles.
North Village Rams picked up their first win in their third attempt when they surprised second-placed Robin Hood 2-1 on goals from Mike Levon and Allan Smith. Tim Perry scored the Robin Hood goal.
BAA Wanderers were denied victory by an 89th minute goal from a free-kick by Johnny Nusum which earned Spinning Wheel a 1-1 draw. Gary Flood had given Wanderers the lead from the penalty spot in the 50th minute.
The other Group A match saw Forties beat Lobster Pot 2-1 as all the goals came in a 13 minute span in the first half. Wayne Bean gave Forties the lead in the 13th minute only to see Joe Barboza equalise in the 21st minute. Jorg Wolf scored the Forties winner five minutes later.
In Group B, St. George's All-Stars were the big winners, thrashing short-handed Devonshire Lions 9-3 after leading 6-1 at the half. Lions started the match with eight players before two more arrived and All-Stars made them pay with Cal Richardson, Eugene Crockwell (two), Anthony Smith, Delbert Minors, Cal Rayner, Milton Jones and Hubert Wade getting in on the goals.
Robert Holdipp, Donald Norford and Angelo Parsons replied for Lions.
Somerset Extros outscored Devonshire Colts All-Stars 5-3 as Douglas Durrant (two), Dwaine (Tricks) Richardson, Craig Brangman and Mel Roberts (penalty) scored for the Extros while Jeff Richardson (two) and Larry Benjamin tallied for the losers. Somerset led 3-0 at the half before All-Stars battled back to 3-2.
Fire Service beat KPMG 4-2 in a top-of-the-table clash as Steven Caines, Andrew Harvey, Tracy Bean and Allan Wilkinson netted for the winners who led 1-0 at the half. The result gives Fire three wins from three matches.
In the other match played Valley drew 0-0 with Park United while Wolves Pack won by default over Prison Officers who showed up at Shelly Bay with just five players.
No team is unbeaten in Group A of the Alliance Division after Dandy Town's 5-2 hammering of Somerset Trojans in a top-of-the-table clash. Five of the six teams were tied on two points going into the weekend but that changed also with only leaders Town winning.
St. George's, third, went down 2-1 to North Village with Dean Minors scoring for Colts and Eugene Simmons and Jazzinho Simmons for the Red Devils, while in the other match Devonshire Colts and PHC drew 0-0.
In Group B, Boulevard beat BAA 2-0 in their first outing as Ross Lamb and Abdul Smith scored while in the other match Southampton Rangers won 4-2 away to Prospect.
Giovanni Burrows, Alfred Wolffe, goalkeeper Darren Burchall (penalty) and Lamal Bean netted for Southampton and Antoine Daniels and Anthony Mouchette for Prospect.
