Panthers overpowerd by Bluebirds

Previous leaders Warwick Panthers suffered their first loss of the 2012-13 Senior Winter Netball League campaign as they were tamed by defending league champions Young Men’s Social Club Lady Bluebirds at Bernard Park at the weekend.Led by the towering Danielle Raynor’s game high 43 points, Lady Bluebirds cruised to a convincing 58-26 victory against a Panthers side that trailed the entire match. Assisting Raynor in attack was Ebonie Burgess who chipped in with 12 points.The defending league champions took the match to their rivals from the outset, embarking on a 10-0 run in the first quarter to gain early control of the match and never looked back.Lady Bluebirds’ defence held their end of the bargain as well, restricting their opponents below 30 points. Darrika Simons (21) and Wenda Roberts (13) combined for 34 points in a losing cause for Panthers.Lady Bluebirds’ comfortable win enabled them to leapfrog Panthers into second place on goal difference, three points adrfit of leaders Data Tech Netts who maintained their unbeaten record as they cruised to an emphatic 60-26 win over SS Tigers.Christine Trott led the Data Tech scoring with 32 points while team-mate Kimale Evans chipped in with 28 points. Jahtuere Trott replied with 14 for mid-table Tigers.Signworx won by default over SS Warriors while fast improving Robin Hood got past Blazzin Bluebirds 48-41. Shannon Etchells (29) and Katie Brown (19) both managed double figures for Hood while Fredricka Samuels (29) and Akelah Hendrickson (12) led the Bluebirds’ scoring.In Under-15 League action, Bluebird Young’ uns thumped Netts Green 49-2 with Keizhari Knight (21) and Satashie Roberts (14) leading the charge with a combined 35 points. Inshane Smith accounted for Netts Greens’ points.The remaining Under-15 match saw Nu-Art Superstars edge North Village Lady Rams 16-15 in a match that went right down to the wire. Shondae Woods-Bell led the scoring for Superstars with 14 points.In the top match up of the day in the Under-12 League, defending champions Netts Whites and last year’s runners up North Village Lady Rams battled to an exciting 15-15 tie.Remaining Under-12 matches saw Netts Black get past Netts Green while Baby Bluebirds beat Cougars Cubs.
