Training squad named for qualifiers

Selected: Bather, front, and Ratteray-Smith

The Bermuda Football Association has confirmed that the Island will participate in the 2018 World Cup qualifying matches in March.

In an effort to take advantage of college players who have returned for the Christmas break, two training matches will be held on Monday and Tuesday at BFA Field.

The squad has been picked with the future in mind, with the bulk of the players under the age of 25. It is hoped that they will remain together for the 2016 Digicel Caribbean Cup and 2022 World Cup qualifiers. A formal training squad is expected to be announced next month. Bermuda have been placed in group H along with St Kitts and Nevis, Belize, Dominica, Montserrat, Barbados and Nicaragua.

Teams in that group will be drawn against teams in group I, which includes Turks and Caicos, Curaçao, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Anguilla.

The team will be lead by head coach Andrew Bascome, assistant coach Dennis Brown and John Barry Nusum, the former Bermuda striker, who will join the staff as an assistant coach.
