A Smiths man pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to taking a motorcycle without consent and riding it in a dangerous manner.

David Burchall, 19, of Town Hill Road, admitted taking the motorcycle on June 26 and riding it at high speed on North Shore Road two days later.

The bike had no insurance and was unlicensed at the time.

Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told the court that Burchall rode at speeds exceeding 83km before crashing into the side of a car that was turning into the Mid Atlantic Boat and Sports Club.

He then hit the wall of the club before being thrown into the air and landing in the parking lot.

Ms Sofianos told the court that Burchall attempted to leave the scene, but was unable to do so due to his injuries.

He is alleged to have said: “Oh man I’m going jail inna. I’m going to get out of here. The bike’s stolen.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned the matter for sentencing to January 29.

Mr Tokunbo set bail at $2,000 with a surety of the same amount.
