Leaf ‘angels’ gift to benefit Trust

Doll donation: Jennifer Gray, executive director of the National Trust, left, with the angels

Bermuda National Trust has received an early Christmas gift — banana leaf dolls.

The specially made “angels” will be sold off to raise funds for the charity.

The dolls were donated by the International Women’s Club.

A spokeswoman for the group said they were inspired after a talk by the Trust’s executive director, Jennifer Gray.

“At the talk she talked about different ways to help out National Trust,” the spokeswoman said. “One way to help was making Christmas decorations. The club asked if she would teach them to make banana doll angels and Jennifer was happy to help out.

“The women of the IWC had so much fun making them that they each made a second one to donate to the Trust to sell at their volunteer night.”

The club donated 13 banana doll angels to the Trust, each of which are expected to sell for between $50 and $100.
