BFA abolish three year transfer rule
Bermuda Football Association has made an about-turn and abolished the rule.
BFA administrative assistant David Sabir revealed yesterday that a meeting of the association's hierarchy had decided against the law.
"The BFA has decided not to enforce the three year policy and have got an alternative plan,'' said Sabir.
"Concerns were expressed that the rule might not serve the best interests of soccer.
"The situation is that the executive committee is concerned that limiting the movement of players between clubs may serve to destroy rather than enhance the development of local football.'' However, Sabir said he was unable to divulge details of what would be done to curtail the annual flood of players transferring from one club to another.
It is known that many players were against the rule which some claimed would unfairly tie them to a particular organisation.
Some had appealed for an extension to the May 30 deadline in order to avoid making rash decisions on their future playing status.
