Some prominent soccer clubs are reported to have signed a petition calling on the Bermuda Football Association to schedule a special general meeting to
Ziese, and about the recent suspension of North Village goalkeeper Dwayne Adams.
While no club official was willing to publicly confirm this yesterday, reliable sources reveal that the clubs intend to question what authority Ziese has been given to make public statements on BFA policies and why no information has been released about the reply that the BFA got from FIFA about Adams' suspension.
The clubs believed to be calling for the meeting are North Village, Devonshire Colts, Devonshire Rec. and a few other First Division clubs. But whether or not all of these have signed the petition is unknown.
When contacted yesterday North Village president Rudolph Hollis said that he was unaware a petition was being circulated.
However he did admit that there were concerns in regards to soccer that needed to be looked into. "The clubs would be within their rights if this was so because there appears to be many concerns that need to be addressed,'' said the North Village president.
On the issues surrounding the Adams suspension, Hollis said: "We have long been aware of the fact that FIFA has responded to the letter that was sent to them by the BFA, and this information was in their hands before Adams played.
But we have so far not received any documentation from the association.'' Hollis did not hide his disappointment over how the BFA had been dealing with the whole incident and disclosed that his club had passed all of the information about it on to their lawyers.
BFA administrative assistant David Sabir said yesteday that he has not heard any news about a petition and added that he was also unaware of any grievances that the clubs may have had against Ziese.
As far as the Adams' matter is concerned, Sabir's only response was that the BFA were presently "compiling information to pass on to North Village''.
However, the situation appears ready to explode and the BFA will likely have little option but to find explanations when the ball is placed squarely at their feet by its affiliates.
Ziese has clearly had a much more open and free flowing relationship with members of the media than has been custom among the BFA and this has not set well with many, who would prefer less dissemination of information regarding the operations and methods of the association.
Similarly, many remain suspicious of the fact that nothing had been said of FIFA's response to the decision to suspend Adams, with the belief being that a judgement favouring Village was being "swept under the carpet''.
BFA president Charlie Marshall on Thursday came to the defence of Ziese, criticising those who "said they want change, but at the same time they are reluctant to change''.
"He (Ziese) speaks for the BFA and we need to listen to his expertise,'' added Marshall.
The clubs need only seven signatures to call a special general meeting and it is understood that well in access of that number have already signed. They have apparently arranged a meeting among themselves next week to discuss various issues relating to the matter.
The BFA in the meantime have themselves scheduled a special general meeting for April 27.
The BFA have announced May 14 as the date for a friendly match pitting Bermuda League XI against a Bermuda Commercial League XI at National Stadium (6 p.m.
start).
Technical director Burkhard Ziese yesterday said that the BFA had received a letter from the Commercial Division hierarchy requesting a match and that it was agreed to schedule a game which would "promote football in the Island in a friendly manner''.
Training sessions begin May 7 at 10 a.m. and continue on May 9, 10 and 12 (6.30 p.m.).
Bermuda League XI: Troy Hall, Randy Darrell, Andre Hendrickson; Jamah Samuels, Jermel Belboda, Neil Robinson, Karl Roberts, Paul Towlson, Andrew Rahman, Lloyd Christopher, Mark Ray, Kentoine Jennings; Leonard Hypolite, Quincy Aberdeen, Ellington Weldon, Irving Burgess, Ricky Mallory, Devarr Boyles, Paul Cann, Carlos Smith, Dwight Warren, Kris Martin, Keishon Smith.
