MPs congratulate new Director of Civil Aviation

Transport Minister the Hon. Maxwell Burgess praised Mr. Tucker as well, saying he was a man who always had his shoulder to the wheel.

Also receiving a pat on the back from MPs were three Bermudians named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Shadow Education Minister Ms Jennifer Smith saluted 85-year-old Mrs. Maise Pearman, who retired from Warwick Secondary School last year; Mr. Richard Tucker, who helped to organise the May 24 Marathon Derby and was an administrative assistant at Bermuda Electric Light Company; and Mr. Alan Warner, who has dedicated his life to preserving Gombey dancing.

Ms Smith went on to applaud those who won Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Shadow Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams associated himself with Ms Smith's remarks about Mr. Warner.

Also coming in for praise yesterday were organisers of the Moment of Consciousness.

Shadow Human Affairs Minister Miss Renee Webb asked for a letter of congratulations to be sent to them.

Shadow Sport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown , meanwhile, paid tribute to cricketer Anthony (Pacer) Edwards.

This week it emerged fast bowler Edwards had decided to quit the sport, citing frustration with the level of umpiring, and the lack of organisation by the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control (BCBC).

Dr. Brown went on to congratulate the new Prime Minister of Grenada, Mr. Keith Mitchell, 43.

For their parts, Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness congratulated organisers of the Father's Day fair at Purvis School, and Works Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons applauded the Tag Day organisers.
