Sports stalwart Lake dies, 78

Family, friends and former sports colleagues paid their respects to Brenda (Pat) Lake whose funeral took place yesterday at St. Paul's Church in Paget.

The 78-year-old sports adminstrator and former softball player died earlier this week.

Her sterling work with Bermuda Track and Field Association for several years was eventually recognised at the Annual Sports Awards where she received an Achievement Award.

During her time with the BTFA she held several positions – director, general secretary and administrative assistant.

She also travelled with athletes as general manager of the CAC Games team, was race director for the popular Corporate Relay Race and was well known for her work during January's International Race Weekend.

In the 1960s she was an avid softball player.

Among those who paid tribute yesterday was UBP MP Patricia Gordon-Pamplin.

"Fom the first time we met during the good old days of the 60's playing with the Warwick Rockettes in the Petticoat Softball League, right through to very recent times, Pat's sincerity and spirit always shone though.

"It was a pleasure and privilege to know her and to work along with her in many sporting endeavours and to observe her commitment to her God and her church as she carried out her duties at St. Paul's. She possessed a beautiful spirit and a warm heart. She will be sorely missed."
