Teacher Heather McMillan Small dies at 60

It is with great regret that we write this short tribute in remembrance of Heather McMillan Small, 1942-2002, a former teacher at Saltus Preparatory from 1972-1975.

She will be fondly remembered by the many children whom she taught and whose names she constantly remembered. She could describe what they looked like at the age of five and recount many funny stories about them. Heather was a talented and loving teacher and was completely devoted to her job.

After leaving Bermuda, Heather was principal of a primary school in the Cambridge area of the UK until she took ill. We are happy to say that just two years ago she returned to Bermuda on holiday and enjoyed meeting with old friends. She also paid a visit to her old school and classroom in a tearful but fondly remembered occasion for her.

Heather leaves behind her loving husband, Ian, who taught at Saltus Junior School from 1972-1975. Ian and Heather had two daughters who attended Saltus. Gillian is now a consultant and Tracey, until recently, worked for the world renowned film company, Wallace and Grommet.

Anyone who may be interested in contacting the family may do so at: 26 Hatchet Lane, Stonely, Huntington, Cambridge, PE18 OEG, England.
