The five-year-old student's body was found floating in the water off Harbour Road, near Mizzentop Cottages, in Warwick a year ago to date yesterday.

Her father, Damon Quincy DeRoza, has been charged with premeditated murder and is awaiting trial in the Supreme Court.

But yesterday's informal memorial was filled with happy memories of the youngster who many remembered as friendly and full of energy.

Paget Primary principal La-Verne Lau told The Royal Gazette the gathering included Primary Two students who were in the same year as little Lynae, her grandmother, and the school counsellor.

"We went out to the butterfly garden and began with a prayer,'' she said.

"We then had stories and I explained to the children why we were there. I explained to the children that when people die, they are not forgotten.'' The students later planted milkweed in the garden to attract more butterflies to the garden which their school friend loved.
