Caesar reigns supreme again!

A capacity crowd witnessed the crowning of Ross Caesar as 'Mr. Bermuda' for the fifth time on Sunday evening. The 22nd Annual Bermuda Night of Champions was nothing short of spectacular, and Caesar's continued dominance was all but sealed from the moment he set foot onstage during the preliminary athlete introductions.

Caesar proved to be a crowd favourite throughout the evening, with shouts of "Hail Caesar" emanating from the crowd every time he appeared on stage; but he certainly wasn't the only competitor the crowd liked!

The evening was full of breathtaking moments, with athletes striking inspirational poses, flexing ridiculous muscles, and exhibiting impressive fitness levels throughout.

Susan Rebello swept the Women's bodybuilding awards, including the coveted 'Artistic Poser' award, 'Most Improved', and 'Ms Bermuda 2009'.

Newcomers Mechelle Willins and Jenille Deveson-Smith impressed in the women's figure fitness competition.

Willins, in fact, edged out perennial favourite Renae Cann to take the prestigious 'Ms Figure Fitness' title. Cann did win her class again though, beating crowd favourite Kamika Wilson by the slimmest of margins in the five-foot-six-inch and above class.

Caroly Erasmus jumped, flipped, and one-arm push-upped her way past newcomer Natasha Raynor to capture the 'Ms Fitness' title, while Monroe Darrell took 'Mr. Fitness' to a chorus of screaming women.

And speaking of screaming women, this year's men's bodybuilding novice class definitely had the ladies exhaling like it was going out of style!

Newcomers Dione Smith, Scott Lauder, and Sinclair Smith garnered quite a few 'oohs' and 'aahs', but the real revelation of the 2009 show was the emergence of former track star Devon Bean as a force on the local bodybuilding scene.

Bean won the novice class, and found himself in a pose-off for the whole she-bang by the end of the night; a decidedly impressive performance!

Other men's bodybuilding class winners included former 'Mr. Bermuda', Jeftha Miller (Masters, and Men's Classic), Ross Caesar (Artistic Poser, and Middleweight class), Javaughn Dill (Most Improved, and lightweight class), and Garwin (House) Phillips (heavyweight class).

With these four veterans making room for Bean, the final pose-off proved quite explosive. When the smoke cleared, however, a familiar smile was standing next to the big trophy for the fifth time. Caesar was imperious on Sunday night, and will probably have to retire from the competition if any other name is to be inscribed on the trophy. One thing is sure though: there is plenty of competition on the horizon, and these athletes are serious.

Ross described this year's contestants as "impressive", saying that the 2009 Night of Champions was "very competitive".

The evening's other big winner, Mechelle Willins, pointed to the long journey that culminated in her being named 'Ms Figure Fitness 2009', saying that: "The preparation for the competition was truly a journey! The sport is not as easy as it looks, and until you have prepared for one, then, and only then, can you truly appreciate the amount of work that goes into it."

This was a beautifully executed, well attended event that satisfied all involved by the end of the night.

These athletes deserve all the support they can get, and the Bermuda Body Building Federation deserves massive accolades for staging this magnificent event.
