Two Fools will host family day
Professionally they are known as 'The Two Fools', but Nadanja Bailey and Jah Simmons are not joking when it comes to establishing the Multi-Image scholarship to help young Bermudians aspiring to develop their talents in the entertainment arts, which is why they are hosting a free family day at Shelly Bay field on Sunday at which donations will be accepted.
Entitled 'I'm Back To School', the fun-filled event will feature a full programme of live musical entertainment, dancing, games, majorettes, gombeys, a fun castle, choo-choo train, and maybe mini-pools for the children.
"The entertainment will include singers, and the reggae band Da Core, in which I sing, as well as a variety of entertainers coming through to make it eventful," Mr. Simmons says. "Gombeys and Place's majorettes will also be performing, and there will be lots of giveaways."
Games will be geared to family participation and provide fun and laughs for all ages.
"There will be a lot of different, crazy races and silly contests for parents and kids, such as father and son/mother and daughter, adult vs. kids contests, with prizes, and there will also be raffles," Mr. Simmons says. "We are trying to keep it simple and a fun day so people can just come and relax."
He warns, however, that because they may organise a water balloon fight, people should come prepared with a towel "because anything can happen with water around".
Of course, no event staged by these talented young men would be complete without their appearance as 'The Two Fools', so they plan to finish the day with a few of their popular skits.
The concept of a family fun day has been kicked around by Mr. Bailey and Mr. Simmons for some time, until finally this year Mr. Simmons put his foot down and said, "Let's do it". So, having put their hearts and souls into organising everything, they are now urging everyone to come out and support what they hope will be an annual event to raise funds for the scholarship.
"There will be a donation box for our Multi-Image Scholarship Fund, which is for tutelage here or abroad for anybody interested in the entertainment arts — singing, acting, technical stuff, backstage work — for which they can apply. We are trying to get them up and running for the January semester," Mr. Simmons says.
"It is a family day and we are trying to bring the community together — every race, creed and genre — to enjoy a great day of fun, so just come out and relax," Mr. Simmons says.
* 'I'm Back to School' family fun day is set to take place from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free, as is food for the children.
