A visitor was yesterday fined $1,000 for importing cannabis into the Island in her private parts.

Laura Lanclamrock, 26, of Hollywood, Florida, admitted in Magistrates' Court to importing 3.31 grams of cannabis.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill said the woman had entered Bermuda on a flight from Atlanta.

After retrieving her luggage, she walked past the Customs officers and their narcotics dogs, which began barking at her.

Her baggage was searched, but it revealed nothing. However the canines continued to bark and her clothing was searched, but the officers still found no illegal substances on her.

Lanclamrock later used the toilet and the drugs were found.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said: "I don't know why people do drugs - they are always up some person or down in a tube."

Before being fined $1,000, the woman apologised and said: "I am sorry, this will never happen again."
