Customs and Police officers are investigating after an estimated $4 million worth of cocaine was seized on a cruise ship.

The drugs were found by the Cruise Ship Enforcement Team in St. George's on Tuesday afternoon, believed to be on board the Norwegian Majesty.

Packages containing 15 kilos of cocaine were seized during the rummage, which also included drug dogs, but no arrests have so far been made.

It is believed to be one of the largest drug hauls to be seized on a cruise ship by Bermuda Customs and Police.

The drugs are to be analysed before a more definite street value can be placed on them. The drug find this week, which was the result of intelligence, is one of a number of successes for drug enforcement officers this year.

Last year, only three seizures were made on board the cruise ships throughout the whole April to October season, but already this year Customs and Police have had more success (see Bermuda Shorts, Page 3).

Head of narcotics for Bermuda Police, Detective Superintendent Larry Smith, said last night that investigations on the latest find were continuing.
