A tourist caught with cocaine and cannabis couldn?t help Police in their search for a cruise ship drug pusher.
Brooke Steinburg, a 24 year-old financial analyst with Goldman Sachs in New York city, admitted two counts of drug possession in Magistrates? court yesterday.
In an August 23 search of a cruise ship berthed in Somerset, Police dogs sniffed out the drugs in Steinburg?s cabin. The cannabis, found in a number of rolled cigarettes, weighed 0.27 grams and the rocks of cocaine totalled 0.5 grams.
Steinburg was taken to the Somerset Police station where she was questioned by Police. The cannabis was brought on board by Steinburg, she told officers. But the cocaine was bought on the ship from a person whom she claimed she could not identify. The Police had no luck in their attempts to find the cocaine supplier.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner handed Steinburg two $1,000 fines for the offences.
A Mid-Atlantic Wellness Centre (MAWC) patient spent last night at Westgate after owning up to some very indecent and abusive behaviour in Somerset.
?F*** you, you are afraid of the power of a black c***,? Cordell Gilbert told Police officers when they attempted to arrest him for indecent exposure outside Dockyard?s Clock Tower Mall on July 20 this year. Police were called after Gilbert was seen with his penis protruding from his pants.
Gilbert, who is an out-patient at the MAWC and resides in Sandys, owned up to his behaviour to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner in Magistrates? court yesterday. He also admitted to threatening his arresting officer on the same day.
In a separate incident on the afternoon of May 24 Gilbert caused havoc for a bus driver and two more Police officers.
That day Police were called because Gilbert had climbed to the roof of a Somerset bus shelter and was jumping between the shelter?s roof and the top of a stationary bus. When Police arrived, a crowd had already gathered around the bus shelter, which is near to the Royal Naval Field. Gilbert began to shout obscenities at the officers and stripped down to his boxer shorts.
When he was asked to put his clothes back on, Gilbert yelled at one officer, who was British: ?I am going to f***ing kill you because you are f***ing white and a f***ing foreigner and you don?t belong here. I am going to f***ing split your head in.?
He then started to throw missiles down at the two officers and damaged a Police vehicle. Running to a derelict building across from Arnold?s Market on Somerset Road, Gilbert started throwing bottles at the officers, hitting them both but causing no injuries.
He again managed to escape, this time climbing up a tree and refusing to come down. Gilbert was finally arrested later that day in Lopes Field across from Somerset Marketplace.
Pleading guilty to assaulting both officers and using offensive words that day, Gilbert told Mr. Warner that he suffered from a mental illness and had a problem with alcohol.
?And when the two mix I do not realise what I am doing,? an apologetic Gilbert told Mr. Warner. Mr. Warner remanded Gilbert to Westgate Correctional Facility until an inquiry report under the Mental Health Act could be compiled for him.
