Police dogs proved their worth after sniffing out drugs in several cruise ship cabins this week

And in Magistrates' Court yesterday four passengers pleaded guilty to being in possession of cannabis following the successful search.

The four Americans were all arrested on Monday after Police dogs boarded the liner and went to work.

In court yesterday Dawn Lynn Booker, 47, of Ewing, New Jersey pleaded guilty to importing 16.27 grams of cannabis.

Crown counsel Koshea Scott told the court that a detection dog named Max took interest in Booker's cabin, alerting Police and Customs officers to the stash.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said: "Welcome to Bermuda. The cost of simple possession is $500 or 50 days at our Ferry Reach."

Veda Renee Hankins, 38, of New York, also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis after sniffer dogs took an interest in her cabin. When asked if she had any controlled substances she confessed.

Kevin Bruce Lightner, 50, of West Patterson, New Jersey pleaded guilty to possessing five home made cigarettes while Eugene Rovegno, 52, of Staten Island, New York pleaded guilty to importing 5.16 grams of cannabis. He was also fined the standard $500.
