However, through my experiences, both academic and personal, I have learnt that God will always hold me up, push me forward, teach me, and remind me of what I already know.“It is in that knowledge and upon that basis that I have viewed nothing as a struggle, but rather a whimsical process called life,” he said.“ I would like to acknowledge and thank the pieces of my puzzle. The puzzle and all of its pieces came from my family and friends, individuals to whom I am indebted for their help and encouragement, over two decades.“This list is unknowingly long and therefore I must caveat that I cannot, today, do more than acknowledge a few of the debts owed.“I would first like to thank God; my source of strength and inspiration. I have only been able to push my destiny to its boundaries with the wind of God at my back,” he added. The young attorney paid tribute to a number of people who have helped him along the way, including Kiernan Bell, “for her embarrassingly kind and generous words”. Ms Bell is the managing partner at Appleby.Mr Darrell thanked the partners of Appleby and the firm’s Mentoring and Training Committee for offering him a place within their training programme. Also noted was Conyers Dill and Pearman for their “academic scholarships” along the way. Another lawyer noted for her role in his journey to become a lawyer was Victoria Pearman. He described Ms Pearman as “a champion for justice” and his “greatest cheerleader”, and cited a list of mentors including Tammy Richardson, Kathy Lipp, Julia Astwood and Yvonne Best-Foster.“They have continually reminded me not to mistake my process for my purpose. Their love, laughter, support and devotion have truly sustained me,” said Mr Darrell.Flanked by a host of family members and friends Mr Darrell thanked his parents for “everything they have done” to help his goals. “I have a mother who has pushed me, believed in me and answered my calls late nights, even when I was just calling for money.“For that, and for much more, I am proud to call my name son. That said, I thing she did pretty well,” he said.He also acknowledged his grandparents and other relatives “who have continually opened their heart space” by offering “invaluable advice”. “They reminded me to ignore success and pursue excellence”.“I hope that my grandfather, who is set outside the earth realm, but which who I feel closely connected, is looking down with pride and admiration. I would like to thank my friends and extended family, too many to name.“I thank them for their unwavering friendship, unsinkable loyalty and unrelenting honesty,” he added.Mr Darrell is not the first lawyer in his family, but he is the first to become a lawyer in his immediate family. He is the son of Donna Goddard Gibbons and Jerome Darrell. His aunt, Valerie Goddard said she was “extremely elated to witness and hear such an awesome speech” by her nephew. “I am certain I speak on behalf of my entire family in saying that we are truly proud of Seth’s accomplishment.“It has been a long, tedious road to get to this final point. However, I am sure the dividends along with Seth’s now official expertise will pay off.“We wish to give commendation to his colleague Janine Carey on her successful journey as well,” she said.
