Canada hold win nail-biter at Lords
Canada are the only unbeaten side left in the Americas U-15 Regional Championship after hanging onto a nail biting two-wicket win against Bermuda at Lord's in St. David's yesterday.
Canada will be crowned champions of the Americas region after already disposing of the United States and Bahamas before beating Bermuda in the match of the tournament.
The Canadians, who won the toss and sent Bermuda in to bat were in a spot of bother at 67 for six, chasing 167 when a vital sixth-wicket partnership allowed the North Americans to get back into the game and snatch victory from the Islanders.
Skipper Nites Kumar led the run chase with a stroke-filled 31but none of his other early order batsmen made an impression on the scorecard.
Joshua Gilbert and Deunte Darrell opened the bowling for Bermuda who had ample chances to make the match all but over as a contest by drinks, with Darrell taking two for 27 and spin partner Tre Govia taking two for 28 to lead the bowlers.
Earlier in Bermuda's innings, Kamau Leverock guided the score along as he smashed a hard earned 42 batting at number three before being caught behind by wicketkeeper Tristan Ali with the score at 117 for three.
Greg Maybury added graciously to the total, chipping in with 29, while Darrell (20) and Govia (22) also putting up numbers before both were run out.
In the end Bermuda's 167 was not enough from stopping Canada winning the match.
The pick of the Canadian bowlers was Siddarth Morkegi, who took three for 20 and Trevor Manoosingh who claimed two for 21.
Also playing yesterday, Bermuda's Development XI lost to the United States at Southampton Oval.
