A close friend of Sunday's fatal bike crash victim told of how Shane Furbert shivered on the eve of his death and said someone was walking over his grave.

Walter Simons said he had spent the whole day with father of one Mr. Furbert before going to a Christmas party.

Mr. Furbert, 33, from Hedgerow Lane, St. George's suffered serious head injuries after hitting a telephone poll and was rushed to hospital at 2.15 a.m. but was pronounced dead an hour later.

Mr Simons said: "He was talking about so much stuff and letting everything out. It was funny for him to be talking like that.

"We were cooling out but he got a funny shiver in his body and said `Someone is walking over my grave'.

"I said maybe he was cold but he said `No, someone is walking across my grave'," but he still made a joke and said `I am not going anywhere yet'."

Another friend who wanted to be known only as "Jah" said it was typical of Mr. Furbert to make light of any occasion.

He said: "Whenever he came around he would always say something to make you laugh, no matter how down you were. He was the type of guy you loved to be around.

"He was not the average person. He spoke his mind and he didn't care what others said about him."

Mr. Furbert had an eight-year-old child, Shalaunte, with Shernelle Downes.

Ms Downes said: "He was a good father. He would take her bike riding or to the park to play and he loved to watch her dance.

"He was a very good friend and family-orientated person."

Construction worker Mr. Furbert was a big reggae fan and enjoyed singing with friends.

Mr Simons said he had recordings of his friend he will play to remind him of those times.

In addition to the tragic accident that claimed the life of Mr. Furbert over the weekend, the Fire Service responded to four other road accidents.

All four occurred on Saturday.

Just before noon, officers from the Central station came to the aid a cyclist who had hit a wall near Harbour and Valley Roads in Paget.

The rider sustained head injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

A second road traffic accident took place at 3.30 p.m. in the Bailey's Bay area. A rider received leg injuries in a single vehicle accident at Coney Island. The Fire Service's Clearwater crew responded to this incident.

Just over an hour later, the central team was again called into action following a two-cycle collision at Brighton Hill, Devonshire, in which both rider received injuries.

And shortly after 10 p.m. a car accident occurred at Middle Road in Southampton. One individual received head injuries as a result.
