"He's only charged with simple possession?'' Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Crown counsel Charmaine Smith. "Oh! He's lucky. You bring in 25 grams into Bermuda and you're caught you should be charged with importation.

"Let me tell you something, sir,'' he told Lewis. "If someone like you is charged with importation you might be headed toward prison. I impose a fine of $1,000, to be paid forthwith and in default 120 days.'' Mr. Warner concluded: "Mr. Lewis, we take importation of drugs into Bermuda as a very serious offence. But they've charged you with possession.'' Mrs. Smith said Lewis, 48, of Philadelphia, arrived in Bermuda on Sunday and was searched at the Airport. Police found a package in his underwear which was found to be 25.64 grams of cannabis worth $1,300 on the streets.
