Devastated parents pay tribute to murdered son
The parents of Bermuda's latest gun victim, David Clarke, today paid tribute to their much-loved son.David Clarke Sr said: “He was a loving person. We would do things together – he was a good kid.”Mr Clarke, 26, was riding his bike back from the Mid Atlantic Boat Club when he was shot at the junction of Bandroom Lane and North Shore Road around 10.30pm yesterday. He died despite the efforts of an off-duty Emergency Medical Technician to save him.Mr Clarke Sr and his son D'Angelo, 20, arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, and broke down in grief.“I fell down, everything just went berserk,” he said.Neither he, nor his wife Angela, can understand why someone took their son's life.Mr Clarke Jr was single and lived most of the time with them at their home in Friswell's Road, Pembroke, although he was shot near an apartment he stayed on North Shore Road. While his Pembroke neighbourhood is notorious for gang activity, Mr and Mrs Clarke said they did not know their son to have any gang links.“Nothing that we know about,” said Mr Clarke, 56, of David Jr, who loved to fix bikes and computers and earned money importing clothes from overseas.Mrs Clarke, 54, said the police have told her it is a “waiting game” for more news, and they have not made any arrests so far.“I'm praying and hoping. I would like answers,” she said. The couple, who are originally from Barbados, moved to Bermuda when David was a young boy. Their daughter Janelle, 29, who is a lawyer and lives in Barbados, plans to travel to Bermuda later this week.
