A writ has been issued against sacked Bermuda Housing Corporation officer Terrance Smith, which is understood to be aimed at restraining him from selling property.

Director of Public Prosecutions Kulandra Ratneser applied for the writ under the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997.

The writ, which was filed in the Supreme Court on July 18, names Mr. Smith and his wife Veronica Agatha Smith as defendants.

Mr. Smith and BHC general manager Raymonde Dill were sacked last August after Premier Jennifer Smith called in Auditor General Larry Dennis to investigate allegations of corruption and massive over-payments at the quango.

A Police inquiry into BHC, which has involved Scotland Yard detectives from London, is still on-going more than a year after it began.

The Mid-Ocean News revealed last month that a website had been set up giving a tour of Mr. Smith's luxury, four bedroom, three storey home with swimming pool on Tee Street, Devonshire. The purpose of the Internet posting is not known.

Under the Proceeds of Crime Act, the DPP can apply to the courts for a restraining order to prevent a person selling property even before they are charged with offence.
