Libraries to close today

The adult and youth libraries in Hamilton will close tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. for the annual staff Christmas party.

Woman hurt in crash

A 70-year-old woman hurt her ribs in a road traffic accident on Richmond Road in Pembroke on Tuesday.

A Bermuda Fire Service spokesman said emergency medical technicians treated the woman at the scene.

Also on Tuesday another accident resulted in a male rider injuring his leg on Middle Road in Southampton. EMTs from the Port Royal Station responded at 1.12 p.m. and left the scene at 1.47 p.m.

At around 8 p.m. on Tuesday night the Central Station responded to a road traffic accident involving a car and a bike on Woodlands Road in Pembroke. No one was hurt in the collision.

At 2.08 a.m. on Wednesday morning an automatic fire alarm went off in a Queen Street building. A check of the premises revealed that there was no fire.

Staff working on an automatic fire alarm system in Harrington Sound caused the fire alarm to be activated. Central Station attended with one vehicle and five firefighters.

In Devonshire fire crews responded to a flooding that had been caused by a leak in a washer line.

An area of four-feet by six-feet was saturated with water. Central crews arrived at 12.36 a.m. and left the scene at 1.02 p.m. on Tuesday.

Thief makes off with $400

A thief stole $400 in cash from Trotta's 711 on Friswell's Hill in Pembroke over the weekend.

When Police arrived at 2.40 p.m. on Monday the complainant stated that she thought the incident happened between Saturday evening and Monday afternoon.

The owner Juliette Trott said that when she and her assistant came into the store on Monday they did not notice anything unusual.

But when her assistant went to open the cash register she noticed that there were no dollar coins.

The assistant queried Ms Trott as to whether she had left the float at all. When Ms Trott checked she noticed that not only the coins were missing but also the entire float.

She thought that the thief had gained entry through a side window.

Ms Trott said: "It is a real shame that people are stealing from the small shop owner, we have only been open since February."

Boats raided over weekend

Marine thieves were busy over the weekend as several boats were broken into in Pembroke.

According to Police, a male complainant reported someone gained entry into the cabin of his boat which was moored at PW's Marina on Pitts Bay Road.

Removed from the vessel was a large portable radio and several tools. The other boats broken into were moored in the Foot of the Lane area. Inquiries into these activities are underway.
