Offers of help have flooded in to The Royal Gazette for a mother of four who lost all of her possessions after her seven-year-old son accidentally torched a storage shed.

Callers wanted to help Cynthia Smith who lost all her belongings plus mementoes of her four children in the Mother's Day blaze on Ord Road, Warwick as the family waited to move into new accommodation.

They had moved out of their old house to save cash to put the oldest son through golf college.

Wesley Kennedy rang the paper to offer furniture which he no longer needed.

He said: "It was heart wrenching. It bothers me that she had everything taken away. I just felt I could help."

Maria Sofianos said she was planning to get together with friends to get clothes for the family.

She said: "It's a very stressful situation for her. I was really moved by it and thought what can I do to help? It's a very sad situation.

"I feel sorry for the little boy, he's in a lot of trauma. It's a good example of why you shouldn't play with matches.

"I was really taken aback by reading it and my heart went out to her and her family especially that she only has winter clothes and summer has just started.

"I am president of Big Brothers and Big Sisters and dealing with children is always a concern to me so I just thought I could help out in some way."

Yesterday Mrs. Smith expressed thanks to the wellwishers.

She said: "It's very kind of them, I am speechless.

"I think it's very nice that there are still good people out there who really care. I am very grateful."
